My research interests lie in architecting the Future Internet. My
vision for
the Future Internet is not limited to an Internet that connects all
sorts of devices
over all types of networks. I also envision pockets of devices
interconnected and
communicating with each other for their needs and using the Internet
when needed
or available as a major part of the future Internet architecture.
During my research
career (spanning almost a decade), I have been involved in architecting
methods
driven by the fundamental assumption that the Internet is always on and
connected.
However, time and experience has taught me not to be complacent and to
accept
certain truths: there are less privileged souls out there in this world
who still cannot
connect to the Internet (the BBC recently stated that 30% of Britain is
still not
e-enabled!). This has kindled my interests in the area of delay
tolerant networking
(DTN) and especially in the area of pocket switched networks (PSN).
Apart from academia, I am also a Chief Evangelist at United Mobile Apps Pvt LTD.
Current
Research
Previous
Research
- Research focused on
analyzing and proposing solutions to improve the performance of Triple play
services (voice, video and data) using various congestion control
protocols mainly DCCP over the DVB-RCS. This involved
investigating IP and MAC layer issues such as QoS, scheduling and
various Active Queue Management mechanisms at the terminal.
- Research led to revision of the
TCP
Friendly Rate Control (TFRC) protocol specification (RFC5348, Formerly RFC3448) to
make it robust for bursty applications.
- Work led to Co-author the
following RFC/IETF draft:
- Also contributed to RTP and the Datagram Congestion Control
Protocol (DCCP), draft-ietf-dccp-rtp-07.
